Recycled Claim Standard
Information
Information
The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) is an international and voluntary standard that establishes the requirements for third-party certification for the use of recycled materials and their quantity for the production of intermediate or finished goods. The standard certifies each phase along the entire production process from the recycling of materials, to the subsequent manufacturing phases, up to the labeling of the finished product. The phases that are not included in the certification are waste collection, sorting, selection and grouping. Products and manufacturing activities can be certified according to the RCS
The Recycled Claim Standard guarantees:
-Products containing at least 5% pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled material
-Manufacturing activities and processes through which recycled material is used to produce intermediate products (for example: yarns and fabrics) or finished products intended for the consumer, which use management models and procedures that comply with the established requirements.
The objectives of the RCS are:
-Alignment of standards for multiple applications
-Traceability of recycled materials
-Provide consumers (both brands and end consumers) with a tool to make informed decisions
-Provide assurance that materials are actually recycled
The Global Recycle Standard is promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important international non-profit organizations for responsible and sustainable development in the textile sector. The standard recognizes the importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model, with the aim of promoting the reduction of resource consumption (virgin raw materials, water and energy) and increasing the quality of recycled products.
