ICEA Vegan is a certification issued by ICEA (Ethical and Environmental Certification Institute) for food products, cosmetics and other products such as clothing and footwear that identifies on the market products obtained without the use of ingredients of animal origin. It is a specification developed in collaboration with LAV Lega antivivisection.
The requirements for obtaining certification in the case of cosmetic and detergent products are:
-Non-use throughout the production cycle of any substance/ingredient of animal origin and other products of livestock or animals even if not subjected to sacrifice and/or mistreatment.
-In addition to animal testing for cosmetic use (already prohibited by law), skin irritation tests with embryonic eggs and other similar tests involving the use of animals or animal derivatives are not permitted.
-Non-use in the entire production cycle of ingredients / adjuvants / manufacturing auxiliaries of animal origin obtained through the sacrifice and/or mistreatment of animals. For example, therefore, the following are excluded a priori: placenta, cochineal and silk.
-Non-use of substances obtained or derived from genetically modified organisms or obtained through fermentations that use substances derived from genetically modified plants as a carbon source (e.g. hyaluronic acid)
-Traceability of the batch number and manufacturer of critical ingredients. The criticality is related to the probable content/contamination with substances of animal origin
