Cosmos organic is the certification for cosmetic products and raw materials for cosmetics that guarantees compliance with the main international standard for cosmetic products, the COSMOS standard. In addition to COSMOS organic there is also COSMOS Natural. COSMOS Organic is the most restrictive certification because it requires significant quantities of components from organic farming declared on the label.
In fact, to obtain this certification the following must be present:
-at least 20% organic ingredients in the total formulation;
-vegetable ingredients and plants that are at least 95% organic.
The standard places limitations on the methodologies and processes of chemical synthesis and on the transformations of natural products (vegetable, animal or microbial origin) used. The extraction processes used must be present in a specific list attached to the specification. The use of raw materials derived from animals or plants that appear in the European and International Lists of protected species is prohibited. Raw materials derived from parts of live or slaughtered animals cannot be used. However, the use of milk, honey, wax and other ingredients of animal origin produced by the animals themselves and not derived from their suppression or suffering is permitted.
