Alpaca Wool Clothing

Information

Alpaca clothing is cuddly, silky soft and stands out with its unique shine. Alpaca keeps you wonderfully warm. Thanks to the hollow structure of the fiber, the air enclosed in the micro chambers acts as a thermoregulator.

Alpaca fiber is fine and wrinkle-resistant and almost pill-free. Alpaca wool is antibacterial, dirt-repellent and therefore easy to care for (just air the clothing or after wearing). Alpaca is also hypoallergenic, a great advantage for those who are sensitive to sheep's wool!

Alpacas live in small family herds of 50 to 100 animals in the Peruvian Andes. They live outdoors year-round, with their thick fur protecting them from temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees. Alpacas live at altitudes between 3,000 and 5,000 meters above sea level, in remote areas where agriculture is almost impossible. They are herbivores that simply tear up grass so that the roots remain. Because alpacas have soft undersides of their feet instead of hooves, they do not damage the soil. Alpacas are sheared only once a year - gently by hand and in a species-appropriate manner, it takes only a few minutes.

Alpaca fiber comes in a wide variety of natural colors, from ecru to brown and gray tones, to natural black. This means that the chemical dyeing process can be omitted in natural yarns. Depending on the fiber count of the yarn, quality Alpaca wool is superfine, baby, or royal.
