Modal® is a special fiber that gives clothing and underwear great fit and comfort. It is the first fiber in the world derived 100% from beech wood sourced exclusively from regulated forests and grown using sustainable methods.
It is produced by the Austrian company Lenzing, owner of the Modal® brand, with the Edelweiss processing technology, based on innovative oxygen and CO2-neutral processes, which helps reduce energy and water consumption. Both cellulose and fiber production respect the principle of sustainability. As valorizable substances, the by-products resulting from the production process are then resold. An example is xylose, which is subsequently used for the production of sweetener.
Lenzing, the owner of the Modal® brand, has been awarded the “European ECO-Label”, which confirms that the fibre is completely free of chlorine and toxic substances and is made only of wood from sustainable forestry.
The smooth surface of the Modal® fiber prevents the deposit of minerals during washing and therefore hardening even after many washes and guarantees the longevity of the fabrics. To the touch, modal is soft and elastic like a microfiber, has an excellent tight fit, but remains much more delicate on the skin and does not create discomfort and irritation, which is why it is widely used to make briefs, underwear, bodysuits, bras, t-shirts, tank tops and leggings.
