How do I care for silk?

1. Thanks to its smooth surface, silk has natural wrinkle-free properties, is dirt-repellent and insensitive to odors. It allows body moisture to transpire and dries quickly. For this reason we recommend reducing washing to a minimum. If there are no stains, simply air the garment (avoiding direct sunlight).
2. Silk remains sensitive to alkaline agents such as soaps and detergents. Conventional detergents often contain enzymes and optical brighteners that attack silk and color. Therefore, wash only with silk detergent (if not available, use detergent for wool and delicates, as the hydrating components reduce the silky shine).
3. WE RECOMMEND HAND WASHING, to avoid the risk of ruining the garment.
4. DO NOT spin dry, DO NOT tumble dry. No fabric softener, use a drop of VINEGAR in the fabric softener compartment. Vinegar takes care of silk and color. A dull surface indicates alkaline damage, which can be reduced with a vinegar rinse (water with a dash of vinegar).
5. Drying: It is best to hang out the wet garment, straighten it out and dry flat, both out of direct sunlight. Wet silk turns yellow in direct sunlight or near a heater. NO dryer.
6. Grease stains: Fresh grease stains can often be removed with bicarbonate of soda: spray on the dry surface, leave for about 20 minutes and tap.
7. Sweat: The alkali content in human sweat can be high in certain people and damage silk. Do not wear silk during sporting activities.
