The name Tea Tree Oil was used for the first time by the English captain James Cook who, having arrived in Australia in 1770, learned from the Aborigines to use an extract made from the leaves of Melaleuca Alternifolia to treat wounds, abrasions, burns and relieve the discomfort of insect bites.
Modern experiments have validated the effectiveness of this precious essential oil. The essence is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree. This tree grows spontaneously in some forests of Australia and South Africa.

Only plants growing in this region have a high content of terpinen-4-ol, the main active component of tea tree oil, and a low content of cineole (a substance that irritates skin and mucous membranes).
This oil has marked antiseptic properties and is considered a classic skin disinfectant, thanks to its recognized activity against numerous microorganisms, habitual and occasional, of the skin and mucous membranes; it also has excellent absorption and is not irritating.
