Once upon a time children were swaddled, in some countries this culture still exists, why have we lost this custom? The bandage warms, reassures...

"The swaddling is a sort of gentle accompaniment in space, a containment that is not absolutely constricting, it's a bit like when he was in his mother's womb, he has a limit around him, no longer curled up, but with his little legs straight, which have the possibility of move but with a limit. The message you give to the child is "I'll put you on the right path", "I'll give you the direction", but above all you help him to get used to the space little by little.

The swaddled child makes no effort to understand why there is all that emptiness around him, so his mind is open to perceive something else, he makes no effort beyond what he already has to make to get to know this new world which is no longer the same. that he left.

The bandage is also useful during digestion; a newborn must learn to digest and clearly makes an effort, but above all at that moment there is a large excursion of heat from the extremities and fontanelles, (you will have noticed the cold hands of some newborns after eating, it is enough to wear a wool sweater and your hands warm up almost immediately); being swaddled allows him not to make an effort to thermoregulate, because his tummy is already warm, I also recommend a wool cap, so that there is no excursion from the head, observe the gesture of your hands in putting on a cap, the message is "I protect you".

The child does not try any further and maintains his strength to receive his mother's messages and his mind is nourished much more, he knows he has a mother who understands and protects him.

The times indicated are 24 hours a day for the first 4 months and then only at night, when you start to find the baby without swaddles in the morning it's time not to put them on him anymore... he tells you. It is important that you listen to yourself, a mother always knows what is good for her baby, so this may be a suggestion but it is you who really know what is essential for him. If you feel it's a good thing, do it, otherwise don't, he'll feel it's forced on your part and it certainly wouldn't be positive. Ask yourself whether to swaddle or for how long to swaddle."
