Cultivation of medicinal plants

Weleda directly grows about three-quarters of the medicinal plants it uses for its cosmetic products in its magnificent and immense gardens scattered throughout the world. Here, gardeners carry out a complex job that is to help nature where it needs it, for example by recreating the natural habitat for certain species. Cultivation therefore always takes place using organic and biodynamic methods , which means that no pesticides or chemical fertilizers are used but that the land is helped only with the composting technique and by adding manure and herbs. In these fantastic places, an important work of biodiversity conservation is also carried out (given the enormous number of cultivated plants) and at the same time the creation of habitats for insects and small fauna that in turn keep parasites away. The rest of the plants come from selected areas for certified spontaneous collection or from suppliers.

Processing

All the manufacturing processes needed to make cosmetic products, such as distillation or maceration, are carried out with the utmost care to maintain the quality of the raw materials and at the same time obtain the maximum effectiveness from them. Even in the production phases, Weleda shows its attention to sustainability by increasingly increasing the use of renewable energy , trying to reuse, for example, condensation water and increasingly reducing its use per kilogram of finished product.
