Saint Basics

Information

Saint Basic is a Dutch company founded about 10 years ago with the aim of producing cleaner underwear, of changing the textile and fashion industry a little and of offering natural and super comfortable underwear that was as eco-sustainable as possible. For this reason they have focused with great strength and commitment on eucalyptus fiber, TENCEL™ LYOCELL. This fiber is in fact about 95% more environmentally friendly than more common fibers, is 100% free of pesticides, comes from FSC certified forests and is produced by the Austrian company Lenzing certified Ecolabel EU.
Saint Basic is very careful about the transparency and clarity of its supply chain. The forests from which the eucalyptus comes are located in South Africa near Ermelo, a town in South Africa, located in the province of Mpumalanga. Here the plantations are located in humid and marshy areas because the plant also has a draining function in the soil. For this reason, they are areas that could not be used for other productive activities such as agriculture. Eucalyptus is an eco-sustainable source because it grows very quickly, has a much higher yield per area than other crops and only needs 4% of water compared to cotton cultivation. The transformation of the eucalyptus cellulose pulp into fiber takes place in Austria at Lenzing.
The spinning, packaging and dyeing process then takes place in Portugal, in a modern company called Impetus where technological machinery is used to ensure a high quality of the finished product. The company is very attentive to the well-being of the workers, offering a healthy, happy and safe working environment. There is no child labor and wages are fair. The company even offers scholarships and internships to the children of employees. The factory also has its own water treatment system, uses biomass to produce hot water and generates about 20% of its electricity supply from its solar panels. The dyes are also lead-free and meet GOTS standards.
