The millet plant has been cultivated since prehistoric times, so much so that its place of origin is still unclear, having spread to all continents. In Roman times it was a very common cereal for human consumption and was then supplanted by more productive cereals.
The husk is the covering of millet seeds that is eliminated through the processing of the food industry. The husk thus obtained is dusted and represents an ideal material for making natural padding for pillows. Since millet is a small cereal, its husk is equally small and is soft to the touch; when moved it provides a light massage. The high content of silicic acid in organic millet husks is absorbed by our body also through the skin and for this reason it is also used for therapeutic purposes. Silicic acid is very useful for bones, hair, skin and joints.
To keep millet husks healthy, it is best to expose the cushions to air, to the sun and to shake them often; in fact, the husk is able to absorb excess humidity, including sweat, and therefore it is best to eliminate it. The husk is a living material and can give us a pleasant sensation of well-being and at the end of the cycle it is completely biodegradable.
