ALPINE HAY :
A little history: The health benefits of hay have been known for over 2000 years. The first written mention of hay baths dates back to 1803 – at that time it was mainly a specialty of the Sciliar plateau.
Life in the mountains of South Tyrol was hard. To ensure that the cattle had enough fodder for the entire winter, the farmers collected every blade of hay from the mountain pastures and steep slopes and carried the hay to a hut. After the hard work, they spent the night in the hayloft. And the farmers soon realized that sleeping in the hay was particularly refreshing and that all the hard work of haymaking had vanished by the next morning.
Hay not only had a regenerating effect, but also a health-giving effect, for example in cases of rheumatic complaints or arthrosis.
South Tyrolean Hay Today: South Tyrolean high mountain hay is still as it once was. Because only hay from high mountain pastures, where a multitude of Alpine and aromatic herbs grow, can bear this name: it is a quality product, during whose production and marketing very strict guidelines must be observed. And this is not only good for those who bathe in the hay, but also promotes the traditional cultivation of the alpine pastures and thus contributes to the preservation of the Alpine landscape.
Strict criteria guarantee the highest quality: Harvesting hay from the South Tyrolean high mountains is very expensive. Not only because of the often difficult-to-access location of the Alpine pastures, but also because of the strict quality criteria that the members of the “Sudtiroler Bergwiesenheu coop.rl” have to meet. These include:
  • The hay comes exclusively from alpine pastures located at an altitude of more than 1700 metres above sea level and at least 150 metres away from public roads.
  • Lawns must be cultivated according to ecological criteria and must not be treated with mineral fertilizers or herbicides
  • Only areas that host more than 40 different plant species per 50 square meters are used. This guarantees the presence of a variety of substances, such as essential oils, which are the basis of the effectiveness of the hay bath.
  • It is forbidden to treat hay with fungicides, preservatives or similar.

MANUFACTURER INFO

The CusciniBio company first took root in Forlì, in 1980 where, in the garage of their home, they began to work the materials transforming them into handmade cushions and mattresses. The most used materials were wool and cotton which were worked by hand to preserve their integrity and properties and combined with natural cotton and linen fabrics.

Today as then, CusciniBio is a family-run company that selects organic materials in harmony with nature to offer a healthy rest that regenerates body and spirit.

All products, pillows, mattresses, futons, quilts, sheets, are GMO free, free of chemical pesticides and artificial fertilizers out of respect for humans, animals, the earth and aquifers.
