Sustainable Production
Sustainable manufacturing is the creation of products made through economically sound processes that minimize negative environmental impacts, respecting energy conservation and natural resources. Sustainable manufacturing is also better for the lives of employees, communities and product safety.
Continental Clothing Co. recognizes that apparel manufacturing is one of the most polluting and harmful industries on the planet and takes decisive and often pioneering measures to address its negative impacts. Starting with the sourcing of raw materials, the Company ensures full traceability of all fibers. It has chosen low-impact cotton, Tencel® Lyocel, bamboo viscose and recycled polyester in the Continental® line, 100% certified organic cotton in the EarthPositive® line , and recycled organic cotton blended with recycled polyester in the Salvage® line.
THE QUALITY OF OUR YARNS AND FABRICS IS THE FOUNDATION FOR DELIVERING THE HIGHEST QUALITY GARMENTS. All fabrics are produced in our laboratories and dyed according to the GOTS standard using little water and a REACH compliant Oeko Tex 100 Class I certified disposal system. Certified organic fabrics are dyed in our zero-discharge dyehouse, where all water is recycled in a loop system.
Reducing your carbon footprint
Carbon footprint (CO2e) is the total carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and other greenhouse gases emitted during cotton growing and harvesting, fiber processing, textile manufacturing, packaging, transportation and storage. In January 2008, Continental Clothing Co. became the first company in the world to calculate its carbon footprint and place the Carbon Reduction Label on its textile products. We have reduced the carbon footprint of EarthPositive® products by approximately 90% through a combination of innovative design, organic farming, manufacturing efficiency and replacing the traditional electrical grid with renewable wind energy. We do not use carbon offsets and our footprint calculations are certified by Carbon Trust Certification in the UK.
It has been calculated that a single EarthPositive® T-shirt saves 7 kg of CO2 released into the atmosphere while a sweatshirt saves up to 28 kg. Having brought greenhouse gas emissions back to pre-industrial levels, the entire EarthPositive® product range can boast the registered trademark “ Climate Neutral ”.
