Recycled PET (R-pet) is a material that offers us a huge opportunity, that of cleaning beaches, seas and landfills from tons of waste thanks to the infinite recycling and reuse of PET (polyethylene terephthalate), the material with which classic water bottles are made, but not only obviously. The recovered and collected plastic is taken to recycling centers where first foreign bodies are removed and then it is shredded until it is reduced to small parts called flakes. The flakes are subjected to a washing process that makes this material reach a very high degree of purity. Subjected to a temperature of 250°C, PET becomes a mass of synthetic material, viscous and malleable at will. During the cooling process, the synthetic material then stiffens into the desired shape. At this point, PET can be reused to produce new plastic bottles but also to obtain a fiber to be used as filling material, for backpacks, sports shoes and much more, products for which its characteristics of resistance and impermeability can be exploited. In fact, PET never loses its characteristics in the recycling process
Recycled PET is ecological and eco-sustainable and contributes to the creation of a circular economy and reuse. To guarantee the seriousness and reliability of recycling, altramoda suppliers certify the correctness and sustainability of the process, such as Waste2Wear and bluesign®.
Some data:
For every kilogram of recycled PET, up to 3 kg of CO2 are saved
The PET recycling process uses 50% less energy and 90% less water than producing PET from virgin raw material and offers a 75% reduction in carbon footprint.
