How do I care for silk?
- Thanks to its smooth surface, silk has natural crease-resistant properties, is dirt-repellent and insensitive to odors. It allows body moisture to transpire and dries quickly. For this reason , we recommend keeping washing to a minimum. If there are no stains, simply air the garment (avoiding direct sunlight).
- Silk remains sensitive to alkaline agents such as soaps and detergents. Conventional detergents often contain enzymes and optical brighteners that attack silk and color. Therefore, wash only with silk detergent (if not available, use wool and delicate detergent, even the moisturizing components reduce the silky shine).
- WE RECOMMEND HAND WASHING, to avoid ruining the garment.
- Washing machine: Silk can be machine washed at 30° on a wool cycle. Always wash light and dark colors separately. DO NOT spin, DO NOT tumble dry. No fabric softener, use a drop of VINEGAR in the fabric softener tray. Vinegar takes care of silk and color. A dull surface indicates alkaline damage, which can be reduced with a vinegar rinse (water with a drop of vinegar).
- Drying: It is best to lay the wet garment out flat, reshape and dry, both out of direct sunlight. Wet silk will yellow in direct sunlight or near a heater. DO NOT tumble dry.
- Grease Stains: Fresh grease stains can often be removed with baking soda: spray onto the dry surface, leave for about 20 minutes and dab.
- Sweat: The alkali content in human sweat in some people can be high and damage silk. Do not wear silk during sports activities.
What makes silk so special?
- Silk is synonymous with shine. Thanks to this unique shine, colors are shown to their fullest. But shine is only the most obvious of its physical and sensory qualities.
- Thanks to its particularly fine and smooth fiber structure, silk is elastic and soft. Thanks to its protein structure, silk has the best skin tolerability of all textile fibers. It can be worn on the skin even by sensitive people without any problems.
- Silk has excellent insulating properties: it warms you when it's cold and cools you when it's hot. It is therefore perfectly wearable in both summer and winter. Silk is particularly suitable for wearing as underwear, because it warms without being bulky. Silk can absorb about 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet and allowing the skin to breathe.
The Kokon Zwo brand was founded in Germany in 2010, and offers women's underwear and clothing in pure silk, burette silk, and other natural and organic fibers.
