Egyptian cotton represents only a small percentage of world production, but its unique long fiber has made it the most sought after species, due to its fineness and softness , since the dawn of time. Naqada, a town in Upper Egypt near Luxor, is the most famous place for cotton processing, made with wooden looms, the structure of which has not changed much since the times of the pharaohs.

Manufacturer: Yadawee - Country: Egypt
Fair Trade Project : The producers of cotton scarves and shawls, who collaborate with Yadawee and Soledad, have been trained and structured as a consortium of small independent workshops . These are around 40 family groups from the area, who have passed down the trade for generations, working alone for intermediaries or merchants in Egyptian tourist bazaars. The training allowed them to correctly evaluate their activity, both from an economic and financial, as well as a health and structural perspective. Furthermore, working together offered them greater bargaining power in sales and the creation of an economy of scale which increased their profit margins. Yadawee has gathered the skill of local artisans and, through theoretical and practical training courses, has elevated the product to an extraordinary quality, with the result of freeing the communities' livelihood from the tourist bazaars in the Valley of the Kings.
Finally, thanks to the support of the laboratory created in Akhmim, the colors of the fabrics are tested individually : an important tool not only for the end customer, but above all for the medium-long term effect on the health of the workers.
Since 2003, Yadawee has been developing traditional Egyptian handicraft products, becoming a protagonist of Egyptian fair trade. Soledad has supported fair trade in Egypt since 2001, actively collaborating with economic development projects. From the meeting with Yadawee, this collection of 100% Egyptian cotton scarves was born, with natural and tested colors.
